Several higher education institutions in Finland have stopped allowing people from developing nations to take their entrance exams, as they fear they will face financial difficulties in Europe. According the country’s Immigration Service, students from places like Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal cannot afford to live in Finland.
Non-EU students are not eligible for state-sponsored financial aid and must show the government that they have at least EUR 6,000 in assets before they can come to the country. According to the immigration services, however, the system is being abused by foreigners who circulate money around their accounts.
“If students don’t have the money, there’s a risk they’ll be abused working for their own countrymen,” says Pentti Sorsa, a senior advisor at the Finnish Immigration Service.
Sandip Ranjit is from Nepal, where a quarter of the population lives below the poverty line. He is studying property management at Laurea polytechnic in Espoo and hands out newspapers at Helsinki’s Vuosaari metro station in order to get by.
“Accommodation is quite expensive and so is food. What I earn goes toward my living,” he said in a report by YLE.
Shishir Mani Pant, also from Nepal’s, studies biotechnology at Helsinki University. He told YLE that although the Finnish capital is pricey, studying here has advantages. “It’s quite expensive, but I would say if I don’t have to pay tuition fees then it’s manageable,” he said.
Dear Finland,
Open up your doors and allow thousands of years of your history and culture to be washed out in a generations or two. Join Europe. Hand your country over to the third world with barely a whisper, .. lol morons!
Hey? What the end game? 10%? 20%… then.. 40%, what then….. you idiots…. clue in.
How dare you disrespect your forefathers who died for you…
Forget racial issues, it’s the culture genicide that’s important, bye bye retards, 50 years out….
Not that Finnish culture mattered anyway….
@SirEuro, I’m of Finnish descant who lives in Canada and Finland, my grand-parents immigrated in Canada just after the World War II when Finland was struggling. I know a lot about Finnish immigration to Canada particularly in Saskatchewan, I’m the one you should talk about this SirEuro, so when I say your culture, your problem, I agree with every word of it. When Finns immigrated in mass around the world mostly after the second World War and also after the Winter War, most of them have been in Canada, the assumed their status of foreigner and they work for a ridiculously low salary with almost no aid and now they part of Canadian history and we are proud of that. So many immigrants thinks we should help, sorry help yourself and life will help you!
Wario: “When immigration becomes invasion, you close the doors! Enough already, people should learn to stay in THEIR country. Your culture, your problem!”, hundreds of thousands of finnish and their descendants live in foreign countries today. Guess why they did move there, and it was only a few decades ago when many finnish people had to leave for greener pasts in USA, Canada, many european countries… etc… The finnish community in North America is HUGE… should we send them back to Finland and take care of their culture there??
Wake up, we live in a globalized world and there is people from everywhere in every country…
Just think about he hundreds of thousands of Icelanders who live in other countries, not too long ago they had to go to Canada and other countries ( including Brasil, Uruguay, Argentina, etc…) to be able to survive.. Just recently many thousands followed their path to the west and other places looking for a job… Finland is fine now, but you never know when is going to face calamities again… What should the rest of the world do then?? let them starve in their own problems… oh, sorry.. lets say CULTURE??
When immigration becomes invasion, you close the doors! Enough already, people should learn to stay in THEIR country. Your culture, your problem!
