Femin.co.uk is giving away 50 pairs of free tickets to subscribers of its newsletter to see the Icelandic singing sensation, Gardar Thor Cortes, perform live at the Barbican Centre in London on September 26th.
Cortes’ opera concert at the Barbican promises to be an unforgettable experience. His latest album is the fastest selling album in Iceland’s history and the Evening Times has already declared that the “the spirit of Pavarotti lives” in Cortes. The Icelandic singer first came to UK attention when he wooed the audience with his powerful, passionate and graceful voice as guest tenor on Katherine Jenkins’ autumn tour.
Despite his Spanish-sounding name, Cortes comes from a very musical family in Iceland. His father was a world-famous tenor who founded the Icelandic Opera, the Reykjavik School of Singing and the Reykjavik Symphony Orchestra. Cortes’ mother was a concert pianist who studied in the Royal Academy of Music in London, whilst his sister is an operatic soprano and his younger brother is studying to become a baritone singer.
Cortes‘ UK album includes four new songs, a cover of the Aha song “Hunting High and Low”, a duet with Katherine Jenkins called “Where The Lost Ones Go”, “Nessum Dorma” and “The Bravura Granada“. The album has already gone to Number 1 in the UK Classical Charts.
