The President of Iceland, Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, met recently with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to discuss matters of importance to both countries.
In particular, President Grimsson expressed a desire to establish firmer relationships between the two countries particularly in matters of economics and the development of fisheries. In response, the President of Turmenistan invited the Icelandic leader to visit the capital Ashgabat to continue the discussions.
The President of Iceland is currently meeting many world leaders and has a visit to China planned for early October. Chinese President Hu Jintao invited President Grimsson to observe the 2007 Special Olympic World Summer Games in Shanghai from October 2nd to the 11th.
Grimsson visited Romania earlier this month together with a group of business representatives from Iceland in order to discuss Iceland’s potential role in Romania’s economic development.
