Two former Icelandic international footballers are building a new four-star hotel in Glasgow in the UK. Contributing to an already booming hospitality sector in the Scottish city, the new 50 room hotel will be located on Bath Street in the centre.
Arnar Gunnlaugsson is now based in Leeds but has played for Dundee United, Bolton Wanderers and Dutch side Feyenoord. Arnar first played for Iceland in 1993 in a match against the US. He last played for the team in 2003.
It is rumoured that Arnar will supervise the project but for now his only comment has been, “It is in the initial stages.”
Arnar’s brother Bjarki, who once played alongside Arnar at Feyenoord, is joining him on the project. The 34-year old twins have worked together on other property development schemes in the past including restaurants and nightclubs.
Bjarki currently plays for Fimleikafelag Hafnarfjardar, an Icelandic football club based in the town of Hafnarfjordur. He began playing for Iceland’s international team in 1993 and last played in 2000.
In Iceland the twins are famous for their various business ventures as well as their careers in football.
Glasgow’s hospitality sector is rapidly expanding at the moment. The twin’s announcement came just a day after Glasgow City Council approved a plan for a 26-story hotel which promises to be Scotland’s only ‘six-star’ accommodation.
