Budget airline Iceland Express will begin operating flights between Iceland and Poland from May this year making it the first time a direct route between the two countries is operated.
Iceland Express will fly once a week to Warsaw from May 15th and twice a week from
June. There are also special Easter flights scheduled for March.
Around 6,000 Poles live and work in Iceland, making up the largest group of foreign nationals in the country. It is expected that Polish residents in Iceland will take advantage of the direct flights from Reykjavik to Warsaw, rather than taking flights via London or Copenhagen which has been customary up until now.
“It’s a great pleasure to add Warsaw to our group of destinations and be able to offer tourists from Poland the opportunity to travel easily to Iceland and experience our unique nature and exciting culture,“ said Matthias Imsland, CEO of Iceland Express.
“I’m also sure that Icelanders will welcome the possibility to fly directly to Warsaw, since interest in travelling to Eastern Europe has grown rapidly for the last few years,” he added.
Iceland Express is a budget airline that operates flights between Iceland and 15 destinations in Europe, including London, Copenhagen, Berlin and Paris. The airline celebrates its fifth anniversary this year and recently reported a 20% increase in passengers in 2007.
Flights from Reykjavik to Warsaw are already on sale through Iceland Express‘ website at www.icelandexpress.com.
