The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition, which is being held near Reykjavik starts next Thursday 2nd October and lasts for two days. It is only held every three years and therefore provides a rare opportunity to meet key figures from the Icelandic catching and fish processing industries under one roof and in a convivial atmosphere.
The exhibitors from all over the world will compete to get one of the four awards for the best new product, best individual stand up to 50m2, best individual stand over 50 m2 and the best group stand.
The 2008 official exhibition party, sponsored by Eimskip and Landsbanki, will take the form of a completely new and exciting theme ‘Jazz in the deep blue sea’ and will take place on Friday 3rd October at the fabulous Vesturstúkan KSÍ, Laugardalur Valley.
Following a welcome drink on arrival, guests will be transported to a magical place beneath the waves and will enjoy a sit down dinner; the starter will be a selection of seafood fusion style, followed by fillet of lamb and a selection of desserts. After dinner the finalists and winners of the four exhibition awards will be announced in a short ceremony.
The exhibition will attract up to 20,000 visitors, cover more than 13,000 square metres and will host some 600 international companies. Since its inception in 1984 the exhibition, popularly known as Icefish, has become a showcase for the latest developments in commercial fishing, processing and packaging. The three-year cycle gives firms time to develop new products.
