In a bizarre Christmas Eve tragedy, three people were shot just before midnight by an unidentified gunman at the Casino Cosmopol in Stockholm. According to local police, a bouncer and two casino guests were taken to St Gorans Hospital with gunshot wounds.
The Local newspaper reported that the casino’s doorman was the one who alerted police after a man walked in and started opening fire with a handgun after he had been refused entry into the casino. After finishing shooting, the gunman calmly walked away from the scene.
Police spokesman Janne Hedlund stated “one was hit in the arm, one in the leg and one in the stomach, according to the information we have received.” The police immediately sent out 16 police units to search for the gunman, who was dressed rather nondescript but spoke in broken Swedish.
The casino, which is located on Kungsgatan in the heart of Stockholm, contained around 300 people at the time of the shooting. Police are checking with all of the city’s taxi companies after several eyewitnesses reported seeing a man jump into a taxi at the scene of the crime.
