Visitors to the annual celebration in the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) this weekend report an excellent atmosphere and little trouble. More than 13 thousand people took to the islands via plane, helicopter, or ferry to enjoy the festivities, concerts, and other events as well as camping and partying. Police and security personnel reported that this year’s festivities had gone very well with very few incidents.
There were, however, 25 reported arrests made for illegal drug use. Many visitors are also finding difficulty getting back to the mainland as flights have been overbooked leaving the Westman Islands. Some people are reportedly going to have to wait until Wednesday, even though the events and holiday ended on Monday.
