Ten weeks of discussions about the state guarantee on deposits in failed Icesave bank have come to an end and the Icelandic parliament prepares to vote. Finance Minister Steingrimur Sigfusson said: “All of the previous speakers seem ready to take the credit for their part in the agreement but nobody is ready to take the blame if it turns out bad. Should that happen I will be happy to assume that position. I truly think we have arrived at the best possible solution to a bad situation.” – “The only thing I ask of my fellow MP is that they be realistic”
