450 People moved from the Eyjafjalla- og Myrdalsjokull eruption area to the near by town of Hvolsvollur. A kilometer long crack in the ground close to Fimmvorduhals and lava running from the west to the east. According to news the erruption seems to be fading out. The main international airport in Keflavik was closed but the Egilsstadir airport was kept open.
Further information about flights to and from Iceland will given at 9:00 am today March 21. Information about Flight Status can be found here.
Eyjafjallajokull volcano will probably be erupting for a few more months, but the power has decreased alot, it may give a few more blasts but nothing serious, last time it erupted it lasted for 13 months, Katla is Hekla’s sister, not Eyjafjallajokull, both are due to erupt, of the two Katla is more dangerous because she is under a 700 meters thick ice cap, when she erupts she usually erupts for a few weeks, mostly producing ash, Hekla is stronger in the lava production,
both will probably erupt soon, but Katla is the one who will shut down air traffic in the areas affacted by the ashes, depending on weather,
she is ca 100x more powerfull than Eyjafjallajokull.

If you look at the map above you can see lots of activity in the biggest glaciser Vatnajokull, much of this activity takes place under a Volcano called Bardarbunga, this is one of the biggest and most dangerous volcanos in Iceland, much bigger than Katla,
there is another smaller volcano close to Bardarbunga called Grimsvotn, there was a small eruption in it 2004,

on this page is a map of active volcanoes in Iceland,
Katla has erupted 16 times since 930, usually every 40 to 80 years
according to history she will erupt within the next 2 years,
we are now entering a new volcanic activity and can expect some big eruptions in the future,
i live ca 200 km from Katla, and when she erupts im going to be there to see it, this is something i can only see once in my lifetime.
in history katla usually follows a erruption at Eyjafjallajokull a few months later they think the 2 are connected by channels deep with in the earth but that has still to be proven if katla errupts it will have the force off 10 Eyjafjallajokull erruptions
We have lots of UK experts telling us what will or won’t (might or may) happen with this volcano, but I can’t find anything from Iceland saying what you think. It’s your volcano, so I would expect you to be the real experts? Will it calm down now, or might its sister volcano erupt, as we have been warned?
