Yoko Ono will be in Iceland next month for the annual lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower on Videy Island. The Peace Tower is a work of art that Yoko Ono dedicated to the memory of her late husband John Lennon, as well as a beacon for world peace.
Videy Island is located in Kollafjordur Bay near Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik. The tower is a huge beam of light projected from a white stone monument in the form of a wishing well that has the words ‘Imagine Peace’ carved into it in 24 different languages.
The Imagine Peace Tower is made-up of 15 large searchlights surrounded by a number of prisms that act like mirrors, reflecting the light vertically into the sky, usually reaching an altitude of at least 4000 meters. Over half a million written wishes that people from all around the world have sent to Yoko Ono as part of her ‘Wish Trees’ project are buried underneath the tower.
The Imagine Peace Tower lights up the sky above Reykjavik every year between October 9th (John Lennon’s birth date) and December 8th (the date of his death).

Lovely – that Iceland should celebrate Lennon.
His lyrics are so adaptive having a meaning for all…
Imagine there’s no IceSave
It’s easy if you try
No EU before us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…
Imagine there’s no Glitnir
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to owe or pay for
And no KSIOM too
Imagine all the people
Living life in poverty etc..
