A right-wing political party in Denmark learnt that they cannot have their cake and eat it after being inundated with puddings following a newspaper article. The Danish People’s Party received hundreds of lemon half moon cakes in the post this week after an article in their party magazine accused immigrants of snaffling free goodies in hospital waiting rooms.
Around 3,000 people joined a Facebook group called “Send a lemon half moon to the Danish People’s Party” in response to the article, but according to party spokesman, Soren Sondergaard, they were completely unprepared for the extent of the dessert delivery.
“Yes, I can confirm that we received some fine cakes in packages. But they are quite smushed. There are probably between 100 and 200 of them,” said Sondergaard in a report by Berlingske Tidende.
The cakes were screened for security reasons and given the all-clear, but the party insists that it has no intention of tucking into the treats. Sondergaard added that the prank was nothing but good Danish humour.
“You’ve got to be pretty grouchy not to find this funny,” he said. “Now we just have to find out what to do with all of the cakes. We should consider sending them to the hospitals,” he added.
