A series of photos of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano eruption, which erupted in Iceland last April, have been voted as some of the Best News Pictures of 2010 by National Geographic readers.
The five Iceland volcano pictures, taken by four different photographers including Peter Vancoillie, Marco Fulle, Rakel Orvar Atli Thorge and Oli Haukur Myrdal, ranked in fifth place in the top ten list.
All five of the photographs capture enormous ash clouds above the volcano crater being illuminated in the dark of the night by electrifying bolts of lightening.
The list of Best News Pictures of 2010 also includes other images captured throughout the year such as the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, new species of animals discovered and huge sinkholes that have opened up all around the world.
