The Icelandic fashion design brand, Gydja Collection has released its first perfume on to the market last weekend. The Iceland perfume, entitled ‘EFJ Eyjafjallajokull by Gydja’, was launched last Saturday at Debenhams in Iceland.
There has been a lot of anticipation surrounding the release of the EFJ perfume both in Iceland and abroad. However, the perfume is now on sale in stores across the country including Hagkaup, Debenhams, Keflavik Airport duty free and various fashion outlets in downtown Reykjavik.
The Gydja Collection perfume is named after the Iceland volcano, Eyjafjallajokull and is in fact made from water extracted from the surrounding glacier. In addition to the launch of the perfume, Gydja Collection executives have decided to establish an incentive fund specifically intended for women in ICE-SAR (Slysavarnarfelagid Landsbjorg), the Icelandic search and rescue team, with a percentage of the perfume’s proceedings going into the fund.
Sigrun Lilja Gudjonsdottir, owner of Gydja Collection commented, “We had a special interest in supporting ICE-SAR because of the tremendous work they did during and following the Eyjafjallajokull volcanic eruption last spring. Their work was selfless and applaudable and we want to acknowledge that.”
Gudjonsdottir added, “Part of the proceeds from each sale, both domestic and abroad, will go directly to the fund. The fund is intended to help support women in the rescue team, raise awareness of women’s participation in the team and therefore encourage other women to join ICE-SAR.”
