Icelandic sailing and tour provider, North Sailing, has recently launched a unique eight-day schooner arctic sailing trip across the fjord system of Scoresby Sound, Greenland.
This incredible trip takes place over eight-days, spanning a vast area across Greenland’s east coast. Travellers will embark between magnificent icebergs, breathtaking basalt mountains of Gaseland and 2000 metres high sheer granite cliffs of Milne Land, whilst also exploring some of the lushest vegetation of the eastern coastline.
This ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ adventure will explore areas such as, Ankervig, Fohnfjord, Gaseland, Hekla Havn, Hjornedal, Rodefjord, Harefjord, Rypefjord, Ofjord, Bjorneoer, and many more wonderful sights.
Throughout the journey, travellers will have the chance to visit numerous old Inuit settlements, including the small village of Ittoqqortoormiit. Founded in 1925 by the people of Ammassalik, Ittoqqortoormiit is the most northerly settlement on the east coast of Greenland. The village’s quaint houses dot the rocky slopes of south Liverpool Land, with magnificent views of Kap Brewster and the Volquart Boons Coast to the south. There will also be an opportunity to visit the village’s general store to purchase some local handicrafts of bone, soapstone and hides.
The trip includes, accommodation and meals on board, soft drinks, services of crew, excursions and arrangements as noted in the itinerary, airfare between Reykjavik and Constable Point, and accommodation for one night in Reykjavik before and one night after the flights to/from Constable Point.
There will be a total of three departures in August 2011: Aug. 13th – 20th; Aug. 20th – 27th; and Aug 27th – Sept. 3rd.

This looks great. Having visited Greenland earlier, I’m dying to get back. This looks like a great way to do that. The fact that the trip is by ship simply seems amazing… :D
