A Danish man is believed to have detonated a bomb in his apartment killing himself, his former partner and her father.
Police are describing the explosion in the flat on the border of Vesterbro and Frederiksberg on Sunday as a planned murder-suicide.
“The preliminary investigation suggests that the 38 year-old man who lived in the apartment had done some preparatory actions that led to the explosion,” Copenhagen Police deputy inspector Lau Thygesen told Jyllands-Posten newspaper.
The man’s 34 year-old ex-girlfriend and her 69 year-old father may have been at the apartment to retrieve some of the woman’s belongings, according to tabloid Ekstra Bladet. Police have not confirmed this, but have indicated that she no longer lived at the address.
All three people were rushed to Rigshospitalet after the blast, with the woman pronounced dead on arrival and the two men passing away shortly afterwards. A family source apparently told Ekstra Bladet that the couple had broken up after losing a baby earlier in the year.
