The boyfriend of Swedish celebrity doctor Åsa Vilbäck has been jailed for four years after being found guilty of burning down his own luxury villa. Magnus Lundberg denied causing the blaze at his SEK 19 million (EUR 2.2 million) Stockholm mansion when he was arrested three months ago, but the Attunda District Court found him guilty on Tuesday (June 26) of arson and receiving stolen goods.
Among the evidence which piled up against Lundberg was a CCTV video of him buying large quantities of lighter fluid just days before the fire. The defendant said he planned to use the flammable liquid to burn weeds in his garden, but this was rejected by forensic investigators who said it was the same type of chemical used to start the blaze.
The GPS on Lundberg’s car also showed him to be in the area at the time of the fire, although he claimed he had lent his car to a friend. Police told the court that he may have been motivated by the fact that his plans to renovate his home had been rejected.
