Yoko Ono’s Imagine Peace Tower, located on Viðey island, Iceland, was featured across New York’s Times Square as part of International Peace Day last Saturday.
The renowned artist’s Imagine Peace Tower was the subject of numerous billboards and murals across New York’s iconic Times Square. Photographs of the tower hit the streets, illuminating the square in the name of spreading the message of peace.
It was reported that Yoko Ono had organised the special event, but decided not to make an appearance.
The Imagine Peace Tower is a memorial for her late husband John Lennon, consisting of a tall tower of light projected from a white stone monument that has the words “Imagine Peace” carved into it in 24 languages.
The tower is set to be illuminated on 9th October, the anniversary of John Lennon’s birth, and will be running until 8th December.
