Aarhus-based company Vestas Wind Systems has secured a major offshore contract in its home market of Denmark.
Officials from the company said on Thursday 27th December that the firm had signed a deal with an unnamed local client to build the framework for a 184-megawatt offshore wind turbine system. The deal is the company’s largest-ever offshore contract secured in Denmark, and the initial 17-megawatt order is already in the works, officials told the media.
The company has not given any details regarding of the turbine equipment involved, but said that the first order would be delivered next year.
Klaus Steen Mortensen, Vestas president for Northern Europe, said that the client would be a “long-term customer” and that the deal spans a 15-year period, providing security for local jobs.
Likewise, Vestas VP of Nordic sales Krister Poole Jönsson told reporters, “Signing this strategic agreement to deliver wind turbines over three years in Denmark shows the wind market in Denmark remains strong and our customers are committed to working together with Vestas,” Rechargenews.com reports.
