Princess Benedikte of Denmark and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark as well as he Danish winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, Emmelie De Forest, all appeared at the opening ceremony of The World Equestrian Festival – CHIO in the German city of Aachen.
Denmark was chosen as this year’s CHIO partner country, and lit up the opening ceremony with a resounding and royal festival. The highlight of the day was the appearance of the two Danish princesses: Mary and Benedikte, who rode into the stadium in the Danish royal family’s Landau Carriage.
The CHIO Aachen was officially opened by Princess Benedict, who said that her passion for horses and love of the sport of equestrian aroused her enthusiasm for this year’s World Equestrian Festival in Aachen. She added that the equestrian show offers a top sport and a wonderful ambience.
Eurovision Song Contest winner Emmelie De Forest was also there to represent Denmark, performing her concert-winning hit Only Teardrops in the Main Stadium. Meanwhile, Denmark’s new dressage shooting star Anna Kasprzak was given the honour of carrying her country’s flag into the stadium when the participating nations were being presented.
Denmark will host this year’s European Equestrian Championships in August, which is why it was chosen as the partner for the Aachen event.
