Denmark has told wannabe participants for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest to submit their entries to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2014, it national selection event. Denmark won this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden, in May, and clearly wants to hold on to the highly-coveted award.
Danish broadcaster DR has already been handed the responsibility of putting on a world class event next year, and it also seems determined to ensure the local talent selected has as higher chance as possible to claim back-to-back victories.
DR has begun the entry process for the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, the national final, in plenty time. The broadcaster’s entertainment editor Rasmus Ladefoged said that last time the country hosted to contest, they came in second place with Rollo & King, adding that hopefully they can go one better this time.
After Emmelie de Forest’s won this year’s event with Only Teardrops, Ladefoged said he hopes Denmark can win two in a row. He explained what they want are modern, catchy, pop songs featuring a strong chorus, songs that will be huge hits and break with tradition.
For the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, DR received 692 entrants, and they hope they will record an even higher number this year. Ladegoged said that after winning in Malmo that target should be easy as Emmelie de Forest has proven Denmark’s status as one of the best countries for international pop.
