Police in the south of Sweden are investigating a 36-year-old Dane they suspect of poaching red deer, fallow deer and wild boar. The police believe he hunted the animals without the required permits, and left a trail of severed heads.
They suspect he cut off the animals’ heads before making off back to Denmark with the rest of their bodies
The police arrested the Dane on Christmas Day on the E65 motorway driving back to Denmark. They discovered the body of a white fallow deer and a hunting rifle. They had been hunting the man for several months in connection with a number of poaching offences that took place in 2013.
However, the man was remanded for four weeks but released last week to await the prosecutor’s decision on whether he will be charged with the hunting-related offences. He could be called back to Sweden to face several charges of aggravated hunting crimes.
Police spokeswoman Ewa-Gun Westford informed reporters earlier in the week that investigators are currently analysing confiscated weapons and other forensic evidence such as bullets, telephones and computers.
