CCP Games, developer of the multiplayer online roleplaying space game EVE Online, is to erect a monument in Reykjavik to honour players of the popular game.
The structure, which will be more than 16 feet in height, will be put on a pedestal listing some of the game’s most noteworthy active players and previous champions who have passed away.
CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson said the timeless monument will honour the players and show how virtual lives have gained greater importance and impacted happenings in the real world.
He went on to say that they are humbled by all the players who have taken up the journey to date, and hope that the game will continue to gather momentum and relevance in the years to come. He added that he wants EVE Online to outlive every current player.
The monument, which is named Worlds Within a World, was created by artist Sigurður Guðmundsson with the assistance of CCP artist directors Ásgeir Jón Ásgeirsson and Börkur Eiríksson. It is to be officially unveiled on 30 April, a day before this year’s annual Fanfest Convention.
