A woman in Sweden has been convicted of assault for slapping a man who allegedly pinched her bum in public.
The Norrköping District Council in eastern Sweden ruled that the woman had assaulted the pincher and fined her 1,000 kroner for slapping him in the face in response to the man’s indecent behaviour. However, the man in question has denied the allegation against him.
The court ruled that a pinch on the bottom is not regarded as an emergency situation and that the woman had no right to slap him with such force, before convicting her of assault and fining her the equivalent of $155. The man, who said the woman’s violent response left him dazed and confused, was one of the woman’s acquaintance’s, according to Swedish media.
It is not the first time such an incident has happened in Sweden. Last March, a woman in the south of the country was also convicted of assault after she lashed out at a man who grabbed her behind in a nightclub. She slapped him so hard that he ended up needing hospital treatment for a broken nose. Her resulting fine was almost twice the amount the Norrköping woman received.
