Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad are interested in Heerenveen’s Icelandic forward Alfreð on the back of his impressive season with the Dutch side.
Sociedad face a busy summer in the transfer market with Mexican Carlos Vela likely to return to Arsenal and Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, despite insisting he is focusing purely on France’s World Cup campaign, rumoured to have a number of suitors ready to meet the valuation of the release clause in his contract.
Recent reports suggest that if, as expected, Griezmann is sold, the Spanish side would be prepared to part with a portion of the transfer fee to secure a deal to sign the Dutch Eredivisie’s top marksman for last season.
Alfreð, 25, scored 29 goals in 31 league games last season after having notched 24 in 31 matches during the previous campaign. In May, the Scottish media had reported that the prolific striker was set to sign for Celtic after he was quoted as saying he would be leaving Heerenveen in the off-season. He said that he had played his last match for Heerenveen and was ready to talk to any club who had reached an agreement with the Dutch side.
Heerenveen turned down a £7.5m bid from English Premier League side Fulham in January, so it remains unknown how much the Eredivisie side want for their man; however, given that Sociedad are likely to have a healthy transfer kitty in the coming months, matching Alfreð’s value should not be a problem.
