The Finnish Border Guard have arrested a suspected human trafficker at Helsinki Airport.
Although the news was not announced until Thursday, authorities detained the Swedish citizen on Tuesday. The suspect is being investigated for bringing a foreign national from Austria to Finland as well as attempting to bring six other individuals on the same flight, despite the fact that they lacked the documentation.
Real travel documents belonging to other individuals were discovered in the suspect’s suitcase; they were found to have been reported lost or stolen in Schengen data and international Interpol registries.
Vantaa District Council said the suspect should be detained on suspicion of planning illegal immigration. Following a preliminary investigation, the case will be passed on to the Eastern Uusimaa prosecutor’s office.
The Finnish Border Guard announced that they worked closely with the Austrian and Swedish police on the case.
