The Reykjavík Winter Lights Festival opens this week, celebrating this dark time of year with art installations and events that utilize light in different ways to illuminate the city and brighten people’s lives. The festival runs from February 4-7 and showcases different happenings all over the city. All events are free.
Among the many highlights of the festival program, there will be a special exhibition on opening night of a light installation at Harpa Concert Hall. Artists Halldór Eldjárn and Þórður Hans Baldursson will unveil their work entitled “The Paint Splatter” on Thursday evening at 7:30 pm. It will be visible on Harpa’s façade.
Another event that is not to be missed is Swimming Pool Night, which takes place on Saturday from 4 pm until midnight. Ten of Reykjavík’s largest swimming pools will be offering fun activities such as water yoga, live music, poetry readings, and light installations, to be enjoyed while soaking in the hot water.
These are just two of the many events that will take place. View the full festival program on the Winter Lights website here.
