A documentary showing the unique relationship between the eider and farmers is being aired on RÚV (‘The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service’) RÚV. The documentary shows the friendship and trust between the two and how it has developed over the years. Icelandic eiderdown accounts for around 85 per cent of the global supply, with its high price being linked to its rarity. This naturally limited high quality product has a price tag of around €1400 explained by its rarity, how eco-sustainable and friendly it is.
Icenews has in the past covered the fact that fake eiderdown is in circulation and sold all over the world as the real deal.
The documentary is to be aired later this month.
