WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange remains wanted worldwide after a Swedish court rejected his appeal against an arrest warrant for rape. The warrant was issued for Assange, who heads the controversial whistleblower website, by a district court on November 18th.
“The Svea Court of Appeal has today decided to reject Julian Assange’s appeal against the Stockholm district court decision to remand him,” the court wrote in a statement on November 24th. The statement added that the appeals court had come to a different conclusion to the district court “in certain parts” of its ruling, but that “grounds for a remand order remained”.
Stockholm district court first ordered Assange to come in for questioning on “probable cause of suspected rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion” in Sweden in August. An international arrest warrant was then prepared for the 39-year-old Australian, who is believed to be in Britain, by prosecutor Marianne Ny. Ms Ny claims that taking Assange into custody is the only way she can be sure of questioning him about allegations of sexually molesting one woman and raping another.
The WikiLeaks boss has strongly denied the charges, hinting that they could be part of a “smear campaign” against the contentious website. WikiLeaks has come under criticism from the Pentagon after publishing hundreds of thousands of leaked documents about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
>” I do hope the same is true here for ISNIC and wikileaks.is — some one from
>ISNIC should post a statement about their attitude to it. ”
I missed posting this back in Decebmer :
http://www.isnic.is/en/ 20/12/2010 – Wikileaks.is
” Wikileaks.is
Under what circumstances would ISNIC close or delete the domain wikileaks.is based on the contents of their website?
The answer is simple, such an action would require a formal court order from an Icelandic court. ISNIC has never been handed such a verdict about any .is-domain during its close to 25 years of history.
ISNIC is not responsible for the registrant’s usage of his/her domain, the contents of email sent from the domain’s email addresses (e.g. wikileaks@wikileaks.is) or the content of the domain’s web pages (e.g. http://www.wikileaks.is). It is ISNIC’s duty and prime function to maintain uninterrupted service to all .is-domains, at all times, anywhere in the world. Only Icelandic authorities, armed with a court order, can order ISNIC to delete or close down a particular .is-domain. This has, as said before, never happened.
Registrants (who’ve read our Rules and FAQ) know however that domains may be closed for two main reasons. Once closed, the system will delete a domain automatically pending a 60 day grace period. During this process the domain’s contacts receive multiple notices and warnings. The reasons for closing a domain are: non-payment of the domain’s fees, or if the domain’s registration or technical setup is not according to ISNIC’s specifications, rules and regulations. So, in short, the only way wikileaks.is would be closed (and eventually deleted) by ISNIC is if its registrant would not renew the domain or if its technical DNS setup and/or whois registration would no longer be according to ISNIC’s registration rules. “
“The leaks actually benefit the establishment by providing a myriad of distraction news stories and ammunition for the corporate media to have more false debates surrounding Iran and the bogus terror war.” As well as more internet control.

” Wikileaks Mirrors
Wikileaks is currently under heavy attack.
In order to make it impossible to ever fully remove Wikileaks from the Internet, you will find below a list of mirrors of Wikileaks website and CableGate pages. ”
Say something soon please ISNIC representatives.
.. but at least for now wikileaks.ch follows the Swiss ways :
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/dec/04/wikileaks-site-swiss-host-switch?intcmp=239
WikiLeaks site’s Swiss registrar dismisses pressure to take it offline
” Swiss registrar Switch says there is ‘no reason’ why WikiLeaks should be forced off internet, despite French and US demands ”
I do hope the same is true here for ISNIC and wikileaks.is — some one from ISNIC should post a statement about their attitude to it.
While US becomes more like China, censoring people in their government offices from reading wikileaks.ch and wikileaks.is , who will stand up to the new bullies in US exectuive branch ?
” The Swiss post office’s bank, PostFinance, has frozen the accounts of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.
The whistle-blowing website says the freeze includes a defence fund and personal assets worth 31,000 euros. ”
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-11929034
So now the pressure is on from the United states Federal govenrment administration to Swiss Federal government suddenly they do find out a ” disrepency ” with his paper work :
http://www.postfinance.ch/en/about/media/press/pressrelease/press101206.html
“(Mr) Assange entered Geneva as his domicile. Upon inspection, this information was found to be incorrect.
“(Mr) Assange cannot provide proof of residence in Switzerland and thus does not meet the criteria for a customer relationship with PostFinance. For this reason, PostFinance is entitled to close his account.”
PostFinance, you are just making sure that many people will never consider you for bank opening again.
For its part, a Wikileaks statement says it and Mr Assange have lost 100,000 euros in assets in a week.
“Late last week, the internet payment giant PayPal froze 60,000 euros of donations to the German charity the Wau Holland Foundation, which were targeted to promote the sharing of knowledge via Wikileaks,” Wikileaks said in a statement. ”
Now we do know which organizations do stand no they own legs and which do not take political pressures well.
” ..make no mistake: it is not Julian Assange that is on trial here but Sweden and its reputation as a modern and model country with rules of law. ”
http://www.crikey.com.au/2010/12/02/when-it-comes-to-assange-r-pe-case-the-swedes-are-making-it-up-as-they-go-along/
Sadly true. The legal prosecutorial system in Sweden is on trial in the world wide court of the public opinion and is found worse than lacking.
It is found to be as bad as that in the Eastern europe of Soviet times !! In some ways even worse..
” the so called arrest warrant issued by interpol, is not enforceable ”
If its actually a European Arrest Warrent ( and I think it is ) it does not matter if it is reasonable or not the UK judges must extradite to Sweden because of the horrible ” gold plating ” in UK of this EU directives like the Telegraph did warn about :
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/7969981/Britain-left-to-count-cost-of-European-Arrest-Warrant.html
it’s been said assange is in britain, and according to some legal eagles there, the so called arrest warrant issued by interpol, is not enforceable, this is due to the fact that assange has never been charged with any crime in sweden, yes he is wanted there for questioning , so under british law cannot be extradited, yes maybe embaressing for the british government.
+If you watch this interview with Karin Rosander of Swedish Prosecution Authority
> abomination European Arrest warrent.

If you watch this interview with Karin Rosanger of Swedish Prosecution Authority from August 2010 on Al-Jazeera you do begin to ask yourself how wrong things were done on this case.

Directly on Youube it is here at moment : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLy2UOaA0CU
And it is people like this that do get people taken under the abomination European Arrest warrent.
This equality at any cost nonsesne in Sweden looks to have gone too far as shown by the way that charges like this agains Assange are even possible; and it is shame that some in the power structure has decided to put use this and put relation with the US above justice in the Assange case.
But because they do have the more liberal laws on freedom of press over there in Swedend than most places ( a reason Assange was interested in residency there ) at least we are seeing some fair reporting about this case in some Swedish media.
It will still be some time before I think is 12 laws here in Iceladn are amended to fully iumplement Icelandic Modern Media Initiative ( which was passed 16 June 2010 http://immi.is/?l=en )
http://www.economist.com/blogs/babbage/2010/06/icelands_media_law
Of course the United States government really hates what Wikileaks has done. As facts come out think we will find that this is an obvious honey trap smear job.
http://www.businessinsider.com/reminder-here-are-the-sex-crimes-interpol-wants-julian-assange-arrested-for-2010-11
” Assuming they’re the same Swedish sex charges, to hear the Sydney Herald’s Asher Moses tell it, they’re complaints from two women annoyed that they let Assange seduce them.
The two women who filed the original charges had sex with Assange on successive nights. Both seemed pissed that he charmed them into bed and then never called them again. Both were mortified to learn, after the fact, that he had had sex with them on back-to-back evenings. One was annoyed that, after seducing her in a movie theater, he spent the 45 minutes in the cab riding from a movie to her apartment “tweeting and texting and reading stories about himself.” Both said he preferred not to wear a condom. One said he seemed to have an aversion to the word “no.” And so on…
At least as the Sydney Herald’s Asher Moses tells it, there’s not much in the stories about forced sex or “molestation” or politically-driven hit jobs. Mostly it’s about two Julian Assange fans annoyed that the rock star Wikileaks founder charmed their pants off and then bolted. “
What an irony! The day I see “Fair Game”, is the same day that I observe that whilst the Bush Adminstration is no longer in power, the Empire still knows how to strike back! Shame! Shame! Shame!
