Icelanders are making travel plans like never before. This year, during the autumn and winter months, travel agencies in Iceland have sold more tours to overseas destinations than ever before.
Icelandair, Iceland Express and Heimsferdir all predict that sales will continue through the winter, with tours becoming even more popular next summer.
Although Iceland is currently affected by high levels of inflation and increasing interest rates, these factors seem to have left travel budgets largely unaffected.
The CEO and owner of Primera Travel Group, Andri Mar Ingolfsson, said: “We have, for example, doubled the supply of tours to the Caribbean since last year, which is a good indicator of increased interest in travel.”
Other travel agencies have also noticed that trends among traveling Icelanders are changing.
The CEO of Iceland Express, Matthias Imsland, said travelers today are more likely to take one long holiday per year in a foreign country and then take shorter breaks over a few weekends.
