A new government-backed Icelandic music website was launched this week at www.icelandicmusic.is
Icelandicmusic.is is a free and fully-comprehensive resource for anyone interested in Icelandic music. It includes a news page with all the latest information on Icelandic music around the world, an events section on music festivals in Iceland, a directory with information on Icelandic artists and bands, as well as pages dedicated to music videos and podcasts.
Icelandic Music Export (IMX), the body behind the website, is a government-sponsored initiative working to bring the different genres of Icelandic music together under one roof. IMX collaborates with companies to market Icelandic music abroad as well as promoting Icelandic music festivals to the foreign market. IMX also organises for Icelandic artists and bands to participate at global music events and festival, such as Eurosonic, Great Escape in the UK and Popkomm, as well as providing support and encouragement for fledgling Icelandic bands.
To mark the launch, Icelandicmusic.is are currently giving away free trips to the Iceland Airwaves festival taking place this year in Reykjavik between 17-21st October. The prizes include return tickets for two people from any one of Icelandair‘s 23 destinations, three nights accommodation at a downtown guesthouse and two passes to the Iceland Airwaves festival.
