Car hire companies in Iceland reduce rates

Visitors rushing to Iceland to make the most of the low value of the krona can also take advantage of cheaper car hire. The cost of hiring a car in Iceland has recently been slashed by up to 70% by some companies in Reykjavik.

Large 4×4 vehicles, such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ford Explorer, can be hired for as little as 8,900 ISK ($76, £46, €58) per day from Reykjavik Rent a Car, down from the normal summer rate of 24,900 ISK ($213, £129, €162).

Reykjavik Rent a Car, which specialises in high performance cars such as BMW, Mercedes, Jeep and Ford, is currently offering tourists more than two-thirds off the price of cars during the winter season. Its environmentally-friendlier Smart Car now costs 3,900 ISK per day ($33, £20, €26) and is eligible for free parking in Reykjavik because of its low fuel consumption and low CO2 emissions.

All cars from the company are equipped with a range of extras often needed in rural Iceland, such as GPS navigation, roof boxes and fuel cans. The company offers to pick customers up at Keflavik International Airport or to deliver to hotels in Reykjavik.
