Barack Obama won in the presidential election and is to become the President of the United States. He is also the first black president in US history.
“America is not blue states or red states, we are and always will be the United States of America,“ said Obama at his victory speech in front of some 250.000 people in Chicago. “We will reclaim the American dream.”
„Obama and me have gone through our differences and Obama has prevailed, we now need to put our differences aside and work together,” said defeated McCain in front of his supporters in Arizona earlier this morning.
Now that the United States have elected Obama, he is truly the world’s president and there are high expectations that changes are brewing in the US and indeed the world.
Barak Obama will be taking over as the President of America and move into the Whitehouse with his family in 77 days.
Obama is where he is by pure dumb luck. He only was elected to the Senate after the top contenders of each party in Illinois were eliminated by sex scandals and by giving a good speech at the 04 convention. I hope all of of you who think he is the second coming will wake up before this tax and spend liberal bankrupts all of us.
Yes Mark, you are right in thas argument, they saw you by one eye ,but for sorrow it was the blind one.!
I know its so stupid im 50% black and 50% white and they say im africa american? Does the white part not count
“I envy the US for being the most democratic and politically progressive country in the world.”
Most politically progressive? Under BUSH???
No, you mean, after January 20th, right? Well, let’s wait and see. First, the US willhave to catch up with Europe. After all, we already have universal health insurance since a very long time. And don’t forget, the Clintons wanted to implement this too, and they failed horribly.
I think Obama will be a good president, a strong force for change, but he’s up against dark, mighty powers fighting for the status quo…
“Must give William Watson some credit here.”
No, we must not! Almost nobody get’s no credit not anymore!
Hey, it’s a credit crisis, remember?
Well, it was in the news…
:D
Well, that’s what you need in Iceland, too.
Change.
New, real leadership.
Of course, this doesn’t come by chance, you have to demand it.
Yes, you can!
Must give William Watson some credit here.
Obama’s priorities
1: President of the USA
2: commander in chief of the armed forces
Being a black man and the rights of coloured people are not on his agenda, he will be president for the entire USA not a minority group.
i am also afraid Kenya is in for a surprise if they think Obama will bestow special presents on them.
We will see litle or no change in his foreign policies compared to Bush. USA’s interests will remain the same no matter the colour of the president.
It is a new American revolution that terminates and forever racism on the American soil.
Congratulations for America and the American people.
“IF Colin Powell had not have gone along with the WMD false reports, he easily could have been the first black USA prez,”
Doubtful. He’s always been a TOOL. I’m sorry, “the good solider.” Which makes for a poor leader. And we’ve rejected ex-Vietnam military for three elections now. I hope he isn’t allowed to creep back into the Washington game.
Although it’s always heartening to see peaceful transfers of power occurring in nations both large and small, Barack Obama’s election represents less change than many might think.
The Bush administration’s greatest negative legacy from 2003 is not the Iraq misadventure but the more mundane Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003.
The ‘Baby Boomers’ are all beginning to retire, and a huge number have not saved for retirement and so bring with them colossal liabilities* for US Federal taxation funded social security and healthcare (which Bush gave a massive and irresponsible boost to).

Although Obama might seem to represent everything the Bush administration was not, unless a miracle occurs, a Democratic party controlled Congress during his Presidency will mean even more irresponsible spending of money that the Federal government does not have than during the term of the outgoing Bush.
The American Federal Empire today looks a lot like the Roman Empire just prior to its decline. Debasement of the currency through inflation caused by unsound economic policies, and a future of increasingly oppressive and arbitrary taxation to pay for its obligations. The biggest of which – social security and medicare – will be almost impossible to cut as the Boomers will control the nation through their sheer numbers at the voting booths.
Icelanders can breath a sigh of relief that despite the economic troubles now, they won’t face this kind of problem as their politicians have been highly responsible in this regard, and demographics are on their side.
IF Colin Powell had not have gone along with the WMD false reports, he easily could have been the first black USA prez, assuming he was interested. Like Mccain,Powell, being Bushs pal, it did not help win the prez post. I hope Bush just goes away, far away, maybe parachute that, (I have to ‘keep it clean’,since the long list of horrid adjectives would be rejected by the monitors of this new site), over Iraq, into the RED ZONE and use a faulty parachute!
We need a black president to save Iceland like Barack Hussein Obama. They will have free health care and I might move to US now. I envy the US for being the most democratic and politically progressive country in the world. US is number one. I don’t know if Iceland can do this in a few more years and vote a person with a foreign ancestry in a high office of Iceland. We have Polish and Asian citizens who are fully capable of doing better than Icelandics in handling our mess up government.
It’s called the “one drop” rule, as in one drop of black/asian/arab/etc. blood makes you that. Doesn’t matter how little that might be. It’s ridiculous, but that’s how it is here.
The one drop rule. Wiki doesn’t really go into the why, but my money would be on the racial purity aspect. After all, in a Christian society, you need a good, clearly defined justification for slavery.

To be honest, in my opinion, George Bush should be honoured letting poeple with black background come through. Both Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell as foreign ministers – this should not be forgotten, and I think this made it easier for Obama!
In USA,if a person is 1% black, then they are considered 100% black, for some odd reason.
Dear President Barack Obama,
I congratulate you on your victory as President of 2008, and I hope you have the best term as any man who has been elected to serve in in that office. However, I want you to lay down a few laws on social security and healthcare, that will stretch the opportunities for head injured survivors like myself. In other words, we could make a great deal of changes for those who are unable to go to the armed forces, for example, to earn money to pay for their college or whatever interest them. Currently, wearing braces on my teeth at age 36, who is destined to get them off the right way, I want to show disabled people the importance of saving rather than spending money on unhealthy products like braces.
Sincerely Ashton Bishop
finally for many years america choose for the better future for no matter what color it is everyone is free to be a king…..
Let´s hope that the village idiot in the White House spends those 77 days in Crawford cutting brush!
Thanks.
By the way. How anyone who’s mother was white and was raised by white people is considered “black” is another weirdness of America. I would think that makes you half and half. Nevertheless, I’m quite proud to be American today (most days actually). The rest of the world can stuff it !!!
OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA!
Hope Iceland could have a president like that…
