After being nominated for six Grammies, Norway has ended up with none after a disappointing night in Los Angeles.
The news that the Scandinavian country has walked away empty handed may not come as much of a surprise to the Nordic nominees, as only R&B musician Jarle Bernhoft, described by the LA Times as the genre’s “most unlikely nominee”, actually turning up for the event.
Bernhoft, originally from the small town of Nittedal north of Oslo, was hoping to get his hands on music’s most prestigious prize; he was also the first ever non-American to be nominated in the R&B category.
The multi-instrumentalist, who now lives in New York, first broke through Stateside in 2011 after performing his hit “C’mon Talk” on the Ellen Degeneres show. After first being nominated on 5 December, the musician took to Twitter to admit he was confused at first, but said the “Grammy had spoken”.
The other Norwegian acts up for Grammies were electronica band Royksopp, choir leader Vivianne Sydness, producer Morten Lindberg and sound technicians Jo Ranheim and Oyvind Jakobsen.
