Annual Icelandic-American conference focusses on Arctic opportunities

The annual Icelandic-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) conference will see public and private sector figures from Iceland, the US, Canada and Greenland come together and discuss potential business development and operations opportunities in the Arctic, referred to by many as the “last frontier”.

The conference – Opening the Arctic for Business – will be held at New York’s Scandinavia House on 30 April.

Icelandic President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson explained that the Arctic is now among the most crucial regions in the world in terms for future development, and that the conference would explore ways in which they could increase these opportunities in both a responsible and sustainable way.

Among the notable figures in attendance will be renowned panelists and speakers from Iceland, Greenland and the US who will be representing their respective governments, as well as their media, business and academic sectors.

Iceland’s Finance and Economic Minister Bjarni Benediktsson is to speak at the conference, as will a representative from the North Atlantic nation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Greenland representative to the US and representatives from the northern US states of Maine and Alaska.

The Icelandic-American Chamber of Commerce is to host the event in collaboration with its sister chamber in Iceland, the Institute of the North.
