Icelandic Food and Biotech R&D institute (MATÍS) recently did an examination of restaurants in Reykjavík showing that thirty percent of the fish landing your dish restaurants is actually not the type of fish you ordered from the menu.
Morgunblaðið reports about the deceit in a coverage of fraudulent goods today. Jónas R. Viðarsson from MATÍS informs that comparable research has been done outside Iceland showing similar results. „We took twenty seven samples from ten restaurants and thereof eight turned out to be false, or of a different species fish than ordered from the menu”. During the investigation the staff of the Icelandic Food and Biotech R&D institute went to restaurants and ordered fish from the menu, took samples and tested them genetically.
