The Icelandic machinery company Vélfang has continued to operate effectively throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the agricultural sector. According to CEO Eyjólfur Pétur Pálmason, the company has experienced a significant increase in sales of soil and forage equipment. This trend suggests that 2020 could be a record year for Vélfang, despite the widespread economic disruptions caused by the pandemic.
“Farmers have no choice but to keep working, and we have to support them by ensuring reliable equipment and service,” said Eyjólfur to the Farmers Paper (Bændablaðið). While demand from contractors declined somewhat, agricultural sales remained robust, reflecting the sector’s ongoing need for reliable machinery.
Investing in the Future
Earlier this year, Vélfang relocated all its northern operations to a new facility in Óseyri, Akureyri. This move consolidated equipment sales and service under one roof, supported by a team of 56 employees. The company also operates a service centre in Reykjavík and collaborates with local workshops across Iceland to ensure timely service nationwide.
Serving Iceland’s Key Industries
The company is a key player in maintaining Iceland’s infrastructure by supplying essential machinery to farmers, municipalities, contractors, fisheries, and other industries. Vélfang’s portfolio features trusted brands like JCB, CLAAS, Fendt, Kuhn, Schäffer, and Kverneland, and it aims to be a full-service provider for Iceland’s agricultural and industrial needs.
