As I am watching the Eurovision contest here in London, the BBC announcer says: “Iceland has a real contender: a beautiful singer in the form of Johanna.” He then says: “Sadly, due to the economic climate in Iceland they ran out of money for the Icelandic costume”. The song “Is it True?” goes well and Johanna (Yohanna) and the rest of the musicians playing do a great job in front of millions. The song seems to have a lot of followers and the Icelandic flag is being waved by the audience as Johanna is cheered by the audience in Moscow.
“I am sure that Iceland wants to do well but not win, and I am told that a singer wearing a blue dress has never won, so Iceland is okay,” The BBC announcer, Graham Norton, says as Johanna goes off stage.

OLAFUR: ” Iceland was second and Vikings got the top two places!”
WICH VIKINGS OLAFUR, THE ICELANDIC ONES, YOU MEAN THAT BLEND OF IRISH, FRENCH AND SPANISH FISHERMEN, SECOND WORLD WAR SOLDIERS AND NOW THAI AND POLISH PEOPLE???
HAHAHA, VIKINGS HE SAYS!!
Armenian young boys and girls like IS IT TRUE very much. And i like it as well. I’d like iceland to win next year. I like iceland and icelanders very much.
Great song ;)
Graham said that Iceland “ran out of money for the costume”. He made a joke about Yohanna’s dress being “an old bridesmaid’s dress that her mother found at the back of a wardrobe in the spare room”. That’s typical Graham. He’s very catty – but not in a spiteful way. He thought Yohanna was beautiful and loved the song.
We have the same in Iceland “commentating tongue-in-cheek” so the humor was understood I think
I thought the Iceland entry was amazing and I made sure to vote for them. What a talented singer Johanna is! I loved the blue background images shown during the performance.
There’s a BBC tradition of commentating tongue-in-cheek at Eurovision. Don’t take those comments seriously or you’ll risk being as humourless as the Kazakhstanian government when Borat was released. Anyway, Iceland was second and Vikings got the top two places!
I think what Graham Norton meant was that Iceland would want to do well but not win, because Reykjavik would then have to host the 2010 contest. Which might not be the best use of several million kronur.
I’m delighted that Iceland did so well, because I genuinely think it had the best song. The best songs have in recent years been denied credit by the old voting system. So I’m pleased with the new voting system.
“Sadly due to the economic climate in Iceland they ran out of money for the Icelandic custom”.
OUCH!!!
Nice song, I liked it ;)
