Reykjvaik’s special police forces used teargas to subdue a teenage boy who was threatening his family with a weapon last week.
The 16-year-old male was taken to hospital in order to treat his eyes for exposure to the tear gas. Following the medical treatment, he was taken to the local police station.
Police were alerted to the incident near midnight and responded according to routine protocol for an armed threat. The boy was refused to drop the knife he was using to threaten his family, which caused the police to respond by using teargas.
The police would not release the boy’s name and could not explain the circumstances under which he was threatening his family with the knife. They did indicate that the boy had a history of illegal activity.
