The legacy of Nazi wartime atrocities has resurfaced once again, but this time in the modern context of a man who wanted to get rid of his girlfriend. A 32 year-old Swede has been found guilty of trying to kill his girlfriend four times using Zyklon B pesticide, which was developed by the Nazis.
However, the man who hails from Lulea wasn’t as adept as the Nazis with their cyanide-based poison and failed all four times to kill his lover. The Expressen newspaper reports that it wasn’t for a lack of trying, however. The man ordered enough Zyklon B from a manufacturer in the Czech Republic to kill 42,000 people.
Between December 2008 and February 2009 he put the poison in the woman’s porridge, poured a bottle of it on her face while she was sleeping, and planted it in her house and her car. But on each attempt at murder, she escaped without injury.
The Local reports that in the end, the man was charged with attempted murder and sentenced to nine years in prison for the time he poured the poison into her mouth and nose while she slept. Adding insult to injury, the man was also convicted of raping his girlfriend. The man was also ordered to pay compensation to his ex.
Zyklon B needs to be mixed with some other stuff before it kills humans.
btw. this poison (used for desinfection and deratisation today) is not called “Zyklon B”, but officially “Uragan D2”. Contents is the same, but “Zyklon B” became too (in)famous during WW2 to offer it to customers under this name. The manufacturer is called Draslovka a.s. Kolin.
