Icelanders have been producing less waste and landfill and have been recycling much more than in previous years, according to Frettabladid. Operation Manager for the Reykjavik Environment Department Petur Eilinarson says that the volume of waste has decreased overall. He continues saying that people are beginning to think more about the number of cans.
Residents in houses and apartments around Reykjavik are starting to order less new rubbish bins and to share with their neighbours the amount of garbage they throw out, in order to reduce their refuse service prices. Locals are also found to be recycling more since the economic crisis.
